Avoiding Electric Shaver Irritation

Dryness and rash after using your electric shaver?

razorburnWhen used properly, an electric shaver can really cut down on the amount of time you spend shaving, as well as giving you an extremely close shave. But, as with manual shaving, you are not immune to skin irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin. Luckily, this can be avoided quite easily, and you can enjoy a smooth, comfortable shave without any annoying shaver burns or general discomfort. Try following some of these simple guidelines, and see if they help you out next time.

Prevent shaver irritation by:

1) First thing is obviously to get a high quality electric razor. If you’re using a cheap, poor quality shaver will dull blades, there’s no avoiding electric shaver irritation. YOu get what you pay for. The better electric razors are self sharpening, and dispense gel lubricants while shaving.

2) It’s often a good idea to soften your beard a bit before shaving. Soak your face with a towel and some warm water, or better yet, shave after taking a shower. The hot water will soften your beard considerably and make for a much smoother shaver. If you’re in a hurry, there are also alcohol based pre-shaves available, but some people find they irritate the skin.

3) Depending on what kind of look you’re going for, adjust your shaver for hair length. People who are just looking to trim and maintain their beards won’t be cutting close to the skin at all. The closer the shave, the more chance you’ll be suffering get an electric shaver burn.

4) Use your fingers to guide the razor, examining the skin first and checking the direction of hair growth, because it’s not uniform across your face. Stretch your skin out gently and shave against the direction of your hair growth for optimal shaving. Be careful, you want to try and shave an area properly in your first pass. If you have to revisit an area on your face more than once, you’re running a significant risk for razor burn. Be gentle as well, don’t push down on your skin.

But…

You can’t completely avoid the possibility of electric shaver irritation, but you can minimize the odds of it occurring. Get yourself a good quality shaver, with sharp blades and a built-in shaving gel dispenser, and you’re likely to get a nice close shave without any problems.

Top 10 Electric Shavers – For Him

Panasonic ES-LA93-K Vortex in our top 10 electric shaversA few months ago, we decided to put up a poll and ask our readers to vote on what their best electric shaver was so we could compile a list of the top 10 electric shavers on the market. Review of the Braun Free Control 1775 Men’s Shaver

Good value for the price

Braun Free Control 1775

This is a review of the Braun Free Control 1775 Men’s Shaver.

If like me, you have tried using electric razors in the past, you know how difficult it is to find the right and best electric shaver at an affordable price. The best shavers seems to all run for 200-400$, which is a price not everyone can afford. None of the cheap one seemed to work, and trust me, I’ve tried many! They’ll either hurt your skin and cause some irritation, or they simply won’t give a close shave at all, unless you press really hard, which again causes irritation. Because of the lack of good quality affordable  razors, I’ve been using manual shavers. However, the skyrocketing costs of razor blades have forced me to look into an alternative, and here I was again, on the look for a good cheap electric razor. This is why, after reading many reviews, I decided to give the Braun Free Control 1775 Men’s Shaver a shot.

Surprisingly high quality 4 stars

Surprisingly, the Braun Free Control 1775 Men’s Shaver is a fairly high quality razor for its price. It is comparable to other mid end price electric shavers, but it has that quality of shaving other  shavers in the same range price often don’t have.

Good trimmer for sideburns, beards and mustaches

This electric shaver has a “freefloat” shaving system with an extra wide foil that gives a closer finish. The shaver has a trimmer for sideburns or thick hair. The trimmer is very sharp and works very nicely on beards and mustaches as well.

Easy to clean

The shaver itself is easy to clean by taking the top off and washing it under the faucet. You don’t have to worry about hair clogging up in the shaver. It is rechargeable by plugging it up against the wall. It runs a fairly long time in one charge, I find it’s given me almost 2 weeks of shave in one charge.

Inexpensive!

In conclusion, I wouldn’t say it’s the most thorough shaver, but it has many good qualities. Is is very durable, and the fast charge is great. Overall, I think that this little electric shaver by Braun performs pretty well. Of course, there is a bit of a trade off if you compare it to the higher end models which by the way will cost you 4-5 times the price of this tool. The Braun FreeControl is not too big and easily fits your suitcase when you travel (I travel for work… I know all about this!).

Expensive replacement parts…

The only downsize is that I find the replacing blade quite pricey.  For the price of the shaver, I’m almost tempted to buy a new one instead of replacement foils. You can buy the shaver at any store, including Wal-Mart and other big store. Personally, I bought my Braun Free Control 1775 from Amazon, I think you can’t beat their price!

A review of the Panasonic Close Curves Razor

Panasonic Close Curves Razor for women

Affordable, greener than disposable razors with a smooth shave

Panasonic Close Curves Pivot Action Ladies Shaving System

The Panasonic Close Curves razor is a wet dry shaver. You can bring this electric shaver for women directly in the bathtub with you and is fully immersible. This gives you so much more flexibility compared to dry shavers, giving you a quick and convenient shave with the results you want. This Panasonic shaver for women has a nice curve to go close on more difficult to shave areas, such as the knees, the ankles, the bikini line. The bikini line, which is often hard to shave or trim, especially with disposable razors, can easily be done with the pop-up trimmer. This pop-up trimmer allow you to get those longer or stray hairs as well as those areas along the bikini line. In addition, the three floating heads will allow for the closest most comfortable shave. In other words, no more razor burns, no more cuts, no more gauging the skin, no more rash, the blades are hypoallergenic and totally nickel free.

You can use the Panasonic Close Curves Razor in the bathtub, in the shower, wet, dry, even with your favorite shaving gel or cream. The shaver is rechargeable and comes with a compact space saving charger which is connected directly onto the wall. The charger is placed on top of the charger, with no long cord, and offers you up to 7 shaves in only one charge, allowing you to shave an entire week without having to recharge your razor.

To clean this electric razor, simply pop the top off and rinse the blades under running water, which makes it almost maintenance free.

With the cost of quality razor blades like Gillette skyrocketing, women’s electric shavers are in high demand, and the Panasonic Close Curves Razor is a product that will give you the result you want.

What I like: This shaver is sold at a great price, offers a convenient dry or wet shave, offers a fairly close shave (ok not as shave as razor blades, but pretty close!), creates no razor burns or irritation, is hypoallergenic, saves water and produces less waste.

What I dislike: The switches tend to be a little bit difficult to use when the shaver is wet, making it difficult to handle the razor.

Tips: Avoid putting too much pressure when you shave, do light movements over your skin. For better results, try using a shaving cream.

Overall, the Panasonic Close Curves Razor is a good choice all around and a good tool to have.

5 stars A very pretty electric shaver really easy to use
I rate the Panasonic Close Curves electric razors a rating of 5.0 out of 5. I felt that this electric shaver had everything I needed : a good shave and a good trimmer.
Best thing about it: The awesome color that will keep any men from using it…
Least liked: None
The Panasonic Close Curves Wet Dry Ladies Shaver is very durable and so pretty! I’ve never purchased an electric razor before (manually shaved), but because I started traveling extensively for work, I didn’t feel comfortable shaving in the tub of the hotel. This is the first electric shaver that I’ve owned, and I am more than pleased with it. I can bring it with me when I travel and allows me to do quick retouch in the morning. The pivoting head is awesome and overall, this razor provide me with a great shave and save me lots of shaving time.

3 stars Shaver provide good look, without the smooth touch
I give this electric shaver an overall review of 3.0 out of 5. This women’s electric shaver has a decent quality and performance and a great durability.
Best thing about it: The electric razors hold the charge very well and is affordable
Least liked: Only okay finish (not the smooth touch I was expecting)
Overall, I liked the shaver because it is convenient. Being wet and dry, I can use it in the shower, in the tub, without the worry of getting a shock. I find that it provides a quick shave. I like to use it on the legs and under the arms, however, not great on the bikini area. It comes with a pop-trimmer, which is a nice feature, but I felt that the shaver lacked the smooth touch I was looking for.

5 stars Affordability with good results
Best thing about it: Affordable
Least liked: none
Being a Remington customer for so many years, I was hesitant to try this Panasonic women’s electric shaver. But after reading the Panasonic Close Curves Wet Dry Ladies Shaver  reviews on Amazon.com, I decided to give this baby a try after my last Remington was more than disappointing. I have only used this electric shaver for a few days, but, so far, I am very satisfied with the results. Not scratch, no irritation, I even recommended the product to my sister.

Reviewer: Suze from Seattle, Wa (01/04/2010)
4 stars Good alternatives to the disposable razors
Best thing about it: Colors, trimmer, bikini attachment
Least liked: Shave not as close as blades…
I have been switching between blades and electric razors for the last decade and I have to say that it is the first time that I am really impressed with an electric shaver. I always found the other shavers to scrape my legs and underarms (ouch!), but the Panasonic Wed/Dry shaver gives a super close shave on the legs, underarm and bikini and I have not suffered from any razor burn ever since. I still shave with a regular razor, and use this electric shaver for quick touch-ups.  Plus, the cost of blades for the Venus and Gillette shavers being so high, I find that it is starting to cost me a lot to shave with regular blades, so this is a fabulous affordable alternative.

One star deduction for a shave that is not as smooth as manual shaving, but everything else exceeded my expectation. Would purchase again!
