What are Ingrown Hairs

ingrown hair vs normal hair

Ingrown hair is a condition that occurs when a hair grown back or sideways into the skin and gets trapped. Even though they seem to occur more in people with curly hairs, ingrown hair can affect anyone. Ingrown hair often appear after the removal of hair either by shaving or waxing and can cause redness, swelling, and sometimes be accompanied by folliculitis (inflammation of the hair follicle) or razor bumps. Sometimes, a small dark spot ( the underlying hair) can be seen under the bump.

Treatment of ingrown hair includes :

  • chemical depilatories, such as Neet. When applying to the face, make sure to reduce the amount of time suggested to avoid burns;
  • topical creams;
  • topical antibiotics;
  • laser hair removal;
  • electrolysis

An easy way to get rid of ingrown hairs is by patience. By not removing your hair for a few days or a few weeks will allow you hair to come out.

But the best way to stop the occurrence of ingrown hairs is to prevent them, either by improving your shaving techniques, or by shaving less close.

What is a Stubble

The learning corner

After shaving or trimming, the hair continues to grow. Depending on your hair, hair can emerge as quickly as within a few hours to a few days. On men, beard stubble appears as  dark patches on the cheek, chin and neck that are rough to the touch.

The “five o’clock shadow” refers to the dark stubble that become visible by the end of the day. While stubble used to be in fashion  years ago, today men prefer a clean-shaven look with no stubble (or as little as possible).

What is Hair?

The learning corner.

Have you ever wonder what hair is? You will be surprised that hair and skin is not all that different. As a matter of fact, hair is a form of skin. The protein that makes the hair is called “keratin”, which is major component of almost every part of the body, such as skin, hair, nails and teeth. The hair grows from follicles which contain the root of the hair. The hair root is the bulb, from which the hair pushes up and out of the follicle, through the outside of the skin. The part of the hair outside the skin isn’t alive anymore and contains only dead cells. This is why shaving, trimming or cutting hair doesn’t cause any pain.

A beard consists in all the hair that grows on the cheeks, chin, neck and upper lip of a men.

Pick the Best Eyebrow Trimmer

What’s an eyebrow trimmer?

It would be nice if the only hair we had to deal with was on our heads, but the truth is that for most people they’re unhappy with just about all the hair on their body. Many women look for ways to sculpt their eyebrows into sleek, well groomed lines. Unfortunately for most, they usually end up plucking out most of the hair with tweezers and then penciling in their ideal eyebrow shape. With a good trimmer on hand, you should be able get the look you want, while maintaining that soft natural look to your eyebrows. In this post, we’ll describe how to pick out the features you need and identify the best eyebrow trimmer from the junk on the market.

How to choose an eyebrow trimmer

Most of the time, selection between trimmers comes down to quality and feature set. Many eyebrow trimmers come with additional features, allowing you to groom other unwanted hair such as peach fuzz, ear hair and nasal hair, and darker hairs above your lip and on your chin.

Are you just looking for something to help shape your eyebrows, or do you need something to also help remove unwanted hair elsewhere? You’ll have to decide what features you would like (or need) and which you can do without.

What’s the best eyebrow trimmer?

Best eyebrow trimmer for her

As a lady who’s needed the absolute best eyebrow trimmer (and not to mention other trimmers) to keep her hair at bay, I can easily provide recommendations to some really great trimmers.

Panasonic ES2113PC Pivoting Head Facial Groomer
Panasonic ES2113PC Pivoting Head Facial Groomer

This is my absolute favorite, I can certainly attest to the quality and durability of the Pansaonic ES2113PC. It’s a great all around tool to help trim your eyebrows, since it’s lightweight and has a small pivoting head that follows the grooves and contours of your face closely. I’ve found that many shavers often pluck the hairs out instead of cutting them, but this one does a wonderful job. Even better, it can be used in a pinch to trim other areas like your bikini line since it’s so sensitive on your skin.

Best eyebrow trimmer for him

Guys, we did not forget about you. You will love the following:

Perfect Detail Precision Trimmer
Perfect Detail Precision Trimmer with 2 Heads & Combs
Andis 13430 Platinum Personal Trimmer
Andis 13430 Platinum Personal Trimmer

These are two fantastic trimmers as well, as they can be used anywhere on your body. Wahl and Panasonic make eyebrow trimmers as well, but unfortunately, they don’t seem to have been able to make brow trimmers as good as they do for beard trimmers. Overall though, both the Perfect Detail Precision trimmer and the Andis 13430 Platinum trimmer are stylish and slender trimmers, perfect for touching up your eyebrows.

Top 10 Electric Shavers – For Him

Panasonic ES-LA93-K Vortex Men ShaverA few months ago, we decided to put up a poll and ask our readers to vote on what their best electric shaver was so we could compile a list of the top 10 electric shavers on the market. Well, we’ve finally collected all the results and we have some surprisingly results. First off, there were so many entries that we ended up dividing the poll into 2 different result sets, one that emphasizes budget and value, while the second was primarily focused on overall quality without any attention to cost. For anybody looking for a budget shaver, you should also take a look at our other top 10 electric shavers list.

Unlike the previous poll’s results, many different brands managed to get a spot on our list. We’d like to thank our readers for their excellent suggestions. We’ve compiled all the suggestions into one list, and we’ve placed heavy emphasis on absolute quality, feature sets, and user feedback. This year, the top spot goes to the Panasonic ES-LA93 Vortex, an absolute beast of a shaver.

10.Wahl 9876-536 Rechargeable/Cordless Beard Trimmer

Honorable mention goes to the Remington. Although it didn’t quite make the list, it was extremely popular trimmer with our readers, so we felt it deserved mentioning.

Remington MB-200 Precision Titanium Mustache & Beard Trimmer

We’d like to thanks all the readers who responded with their feedback. Overall, the Wahl’s dominated the top spots with their high quality shaver kits. If you need to look immaculate, be it for work or social occasions, you want to have the Wahl 9876-2001 Lithium Ion All-In-One Trimmer in your bathroom. This high quality trimmer took top spot on the top 10 beard trimmers because of its multitude of accessories, multiple rotating heads, and various blade sizes. Review of the Braun Free Control 1775 Men’s Shaver

Good value for the price

Braun Free Control 1775

This is a review of the Braun Free Control 1775 Men’s Shaver.

If like me, you have tried using electric razors in the past, you know how difficult it is to find the right and best electric shaver at an affordable price. The best shavers seems to all run for 200-400$, which is a price not everyone can afford. None of the cheap one seemed to work, and trust me, I’ve tried many! They’ll either hurt your skin and cause some irritation, or they simply won’t give a close shave at all, unless you press really hard, which again causes irritation. Because of the lack of good quality affordable  razors, I’ve been using manual shavers. However, the skyrocketing costs of razor blades have forced me to look into an alternative, and here I was again, on the look for a good cheap electric razor. This is why, after reading many reviews, I decided to give the Braun Free Control 1775 Men’s Shaver a shot.

Surprisingly high quality 4 stars

Surprisingly, the Braun Free Control 1775 Men’s Shaver is a fairly high quality razor for its price. It is comparable to other mid end price electric shavers, but it has that quality of shaving other  shavers in the same range price often don’t have.

Good trimmer for sideburns, beards and mustaches

This electric shaver has a “freefloat” shaving system with an extra wide foil that gives a closer finish. The shaver has a trimmer for sideburns or thick hair. The trimmer is very sharp and works very nicely on beards and mustaches as well.

Easy to clean

The shaver itself is easy to clean by taking the top off and washing it under the faucet. You don’t have to worry about hair clogging up in the shaver. It is rechargeable by plugging it up against the wall. It runs a fairly long time in one charge, I find it’s given me almost 2 weeks of shave in one charge.

Inexpensive!

In conclusion, I wouldn’t say it’s the most thorough shaver, but it has many good qualities. Is is very durable, and the fast charge is great. Overall, I think that this little electric shaver by Braun performs pretty well. Of course, there is a bit of a trade off if you compare it to the higher end models which by the way will cost you 4-5 times the price of this tool. The Braun FreeControl is not too big and easily fits your suitcase when you travel (I travel for work… I know all about this!).

Expensive replacement parts…

The only downsize is that I find the replacing blade quite pricey.  For the price of the shaver, I’m almost tempted to buy a new one instead of replacement foils. You can buy the shaver at any store, including Wal-Mart and other big store. Personally, I bought my Braun Free Control 1775 from Amazon, I think you can’t beat their price!

A review of the Braun 7-790cc electric shaver

Very satisfied with the Braun 7-790cc

The Braun 7-790cc electric shaver product is Braun top of the line razor model and uses the Braun Pulsonic technology which is an ultrasonic vibrating head technology. This electric razor is capable of providing a very close shave.

Review

Design of the head and foil

The head of the shaver is quite unique. There are three sets of blades, two sets with floating head at the top and bottom and a trimmer set in the middle to get the longer hair, which allow the shaver to get all the different size of hair on the beard. The screen was designed to optimize the cutting of the hair follicles. I find that the shaver is quite efficient at it.

This best electric shaver has a very active head (10,000 micro vibrations per minute). The shaver has a swivel head, which goes twice as far as other Braun shavers and that gives you more flexibility. The head also has a locking button and you can simply lock the head when you need to access an area where you want to head to remain straight, like under the nose.

The foil uses the Gillette blade technology and last about 18 months, where after you will need to change it, and an indicator will even tell you when it’s time to replace it. The foil easily pops out so you can easily change it.

Trimmer

One of the nice feature the unit has is the pop-up trimmer, which is especially good if you have sideburns.

LED indicator

A the bottom of the best electric shaver, an LED indicator tells you the battery life and the level of cleanliness of the shaver. The Braun 7-790cc can last up to a week of daily shaving on a full charge.

Base

The base will not only charge the device, but will also clean it. The stand uses the “clean and renew” cleaning product with lemon scented oil that will lubricate the razor blades, with a really nice and refreshing scent. This makes it very convenient. After shaving, all you need to do is to put the shaver back on its stand, hit one button, and it it goes to work to not only charge the battery, but also to sterilize the blades. The stand has different levels of cleaning needed depending on your need – from an eco quick clean to the super duty cleaning. There is also the option of a 20 seconds fast clean.

If you are travelling, there are great options for you. First, the shaver can also be washed under running water, so you don’t need to “clean and renew” you shaver all the time. For charging, you have the option of plugging your charger to the well by taking the cord right out of the base and charging the shaver directly. Plus the shaver comes with a nice hard plastic travel case.

Conclusion

The shaver is made in Germany and have a very good hold and feel to it. So this ends my review of the the Braun 7-790cc electric razor which is probably, in my opinion, the best electric razor I’ve ever owned and gives a nice clean tight shave.

Tips

Tip when using this electric shaver:

  • The manufacturer, Braun, recommends to shave before showering or washing your face, has the oil on your face will protects from irritation.
  • Unlike for manual shaving, it is recommend to shave against the grain with the Braun 7-790cc.

A review of the Philips Norelco Arcitec 1090 Men’s Shaving System

Philips Norelco arcitec 1090 Men’s Shaving System

Good everyday shaver – Disappointing for beards and mustaches

Philips Norelco arcitec 1090

The Philips Norelco arcitec 1090 Men’s Shaving System is the very latest product in Philip’s Arcitec line of shavers, but this product unfortunately does not completely stands the high expectations from the previous Norelco generations. Philips Norelco claims that the boasting innovative new enhancements such as the 360 degree range of motion swivelling head, and advanced tube trimmer, makes this rotary Philips Norelco one of the best electric shaver on the market in 2010.

It is true that Philips offers here a 360 degree swiveling shaving head and a state-of-the art sleek design, making the Arcitec the most advanced Philips Norelco shaver yet. Compared to other Philips Norelco shavers, Arcitec offers new flex & pivot technology, a more aerodynamic design, and an advanced tube trimmer.

Pros:

Let’s start with the good stuff. First off in any shaver review, you want to know just how well does this thing shave? Well, be assured that this thing delivers a smooth, comfortable shave. The new “Flex and Pivot” technology really shines here, making it easy to reach every spot on your face without revisiting. I have a couple problem areas, especially around my neck/ear area and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it caught the hairs there without any trouble.

Also, although this doesn’t actually affect how well the shaver performs, this is one attractive shaver. You might almost declare this the best rotary elecric shaver of 2010 solely on the state of the art design. It’s a beautiful shaver, with it’s carbon fiber exterior and slim ergonomic design, it fits snugly in the palm of your hand.

State-of-the-Art Design: arcitec’s ‘central drive’ technology makes it possible to design an ultra slim ergonomic body that fits snugly in your hand — making it more comfortable to hold and effortless to use. The central drive technology connects all rotary blades to the shaving motor using only one spindle (axle) for a more comfortable grip.

Cons:

The old adage “You get what you pay for” is more or less true for the Philips Norelco arcitec 1090 Men’s Shaving System, as this is no budget shaver. Quality comes at a price, but luckily the shaver isn’t too expensive at well under $200 with an Amazon sale.

So for the bad stuff, I noticed that this trimmer is a lot noisier than the previous generation, which is a bit disappointing. This wasn’t a big deal, as I’m not trying to shave while spying on people, but it would be nicer if the shaver ran quietly.

While the Arcitec is actually pretty good when you use it daily for a clean shave, I find that it lacked the power to cut long whiskers. If you miss a few days of shaving, you will need to use a trimmer before finishing off with the Philips Norelco Arcitec 1090.

This model also features a built-in trimmer like previous generations. Unfortunately, it’s a bit narrow and I found it wasn’t that effective.

This reviewer (RalphyDaly28) summarizes exactly what I think:

I will admit that it is light, feels good in the hand, and shaves well if you use it every day. If you skip shaving for a few days it takes many passes before it shaves all the long whiskers. I typically need to use a trimmer to cut some strays down before finishing off.

Conclusion :

So an overall good product if you are keeping a clean shave look, check out the Braun Series 7- 790cc Pulsonic Shaver if you have thick hair or a mustache or beard, which sells at a comparable price.
